CHAMOMILE FLAKES
Botanical name: Matricaria Chamomilla
Chamomile or camomile is a common name for several daisy-like plants of the family Asteraceae. These plants are best known for their ability to be made into an infusion which is commonly used to help with sleep and is often served with honey or lemon, or both.
Benefits and uses:
Major chemical compounds present within chamomile include apigenin and alpha-bisabolol. Apigenin has demonstrated strong chemopreventive effects, while alpha-bisabolol has been shown to have antiseptic properties, anti-inflammatory properties, and has also been demonstrated to reduce pepsin secretion without altering secretion of stomach acid.
It has been found to contain fairly strong antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory constituents and is particularly effective in treating stomach and intestinal cramps.
Chamomile gathered in the early stages of flowering, reduces cramping and spastic pain in the bowels and also relieves excessive gas and bloating in the intestine.
It is often used to relieve irritable bowel syndrome, nausea, and gastroenteritis. Chamomile is also an excellent calming agent, well suited for irritable babies and restless children.
Chamomile used as an infusion of tea. It is used as a tonic, stomachic, anodyne, and anti-spasmodic. Its strong antiseptic properties make it invaluable for reducing swelling of the face due to abscess or injury. It is also used for a lotion, for external application in toothache, earache, neuralgia, etc.
The herb itself is an ingredient in many herb mixtures. The pure and gentle powdered herb is convenient for everyday use.
